Excelicare Certified by NHS Digital to Integrate with the Personal Demographics Service

Integration facilitates consistent identification of NHS patients across care settings.

Excelicare subsidiary AxSys Technology Ltd. has been approved to provide access to the NHS Digital Personal Demographics Service (PDS) using NHS Digital’s Spine Mini Service Provider (SMSP). The PDS is England’s national electronic database of NHS demographic information, including name, address, date of birth, NHS number and primary care provider. Among other things, it enables healthcare organizations to fulfil their duties under the NHS Standard Contracts to use the NHS number as a “consistent identifier” to identify every patient properly across care settings.

The NHS Digital SMSP allows secure, read-only connections to the PDS. It supports secure access using NHS Smartcards and end-to-end encryption, as well as audit logging.

Already approved to deliver Hospital Admission, Discharge and Transfers messaging and access to Summary Care Records, AxSys has now also successfully gained approval for: 

• registration of new patients using the demographic information from the PDS,
• seamless searching across local and national databases, and
• direct review of the patient’s latest demographic information within Excelicare’s consolidated patient record.
